Being an expertise is anything is something that no one can do overnight and it involve determination and patience in that thing that motivates a person. I was introduced to photography in As220 Youth. I started to learn about all the things that you needed to know to understand photography. Before I need it I was very involved in a hobby where I would sign out a camera and always have ideas to fill to a point where I loved to go out in the city and photograph many place and also with many people that I knew. Photography really caught my attention because I can see that many people in As220 did not have simple photos of people but also photos of abstract images that they could have controlled when shooting the photo. I would say that almost that they used Photoshop during there time of taking the photo but they didn’t they would manipulate how the camera would take a picture.

I was very interested in art I would wonder about another place other than school that could improve my skills in art such as drawing. Having art in high school was decent to say the least but I was sure that there were other places that I can expand my learning of art. After a few months of having art class then having the semester finish and then not having art again has lead me to think that I could not have a better way to learn. Then I began to ask the art teacher if there was another way that I could be able to have an art class, she first said that I could not have it in school but that I could be able to see in the city for art organizations. She told me about three places where they teach art and the locations where in the city and the organizations were called RISD Project Open Door, New Urban Arts, and lastly As220 Youth.

I was determined to find out about the organizations and see if I could be able to be a part of all three. After school I would decide to find out where the places are and honestly having Google maps has made it very easy. After finding out I decided to go to the closest organization which was New Urban Arts. I was very excited to begin to learning art in a place with people that have the same determination. After some time I notice that New Urban Arts wasn’t what I wanted, it showed me about drawing but nothing else to expand on. After that moment I went to As220 Youth. I met people pretty quickly and there are many classes rather than just drawing. Printmaking, Photography, Graphic Design, and Music were given to the people that attended the program. I then decided to be a part of it and the first class that I would have was a video game design class were I would be on a computer and make design with a computer program called blender. After a semester of doing one program I decided to be a part of lots of things and many people in As220 told me to do Photography which I later did.

First day of class was very different compared to other art class, it was more being outside and seeing more the world and how its form and how to make things into art by composing it with your eye. Also we began to learn photography with an old fashion 35 mm camera that uses film. Starting to learn film photography was the best experience especially when I had to work in a dark room. In the Summer I would take all my time and be at As220 and always ask to sign out a camera and use lots of film and go out to many places and photograph it Being with many people that have the same determination to learn photography was simply amazing and it made the interaction be smoother.

I had much fun and having learned photography with the basics that was learning first composition, tone, depth of field, light meter, and shutter speed. These basic was taught to me first before I could handle a camera and head out to take pictures and it has also lead me to have a smooth transition to digital photography which was easier to print as compared to film. After some time I was given a camera to borrow to make a project and see what I was able to do on my own. After learning the techniques on a camera I then meet people that also had a great experience with photography and I was taught about light drawing and how awesome it is

In conclusion I would see that I would be more on the side of doing photography and having my own kind of ways to do photography with lights and be able to use it by making drawing in my photography instead of using digital software suchas Photoshop
